The Industrial & Power Plant Division of F&H Contractors provides a comprehensive range of turnkey services to industrial and power generation markets primarily within the state of Florida.  As a state licensed General Contractor (CGC1511430), Electrical Contractor (EC0001900), Mechanical Contractor (CAC057753), and Underground Utility Contractor (CUC1224413), F&H employs a variety of well trained, skilled tradesmen that perform a wide range of industrial construction and maintenance services to a wide variety of facilities.  F&H Contractors is able to rapidly expand our labor force with employees having the necessary education, training and experience.  Some of the training programs provided include Power Plant Procedures, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training standards for maintenance and construction, fall protection, confined space entry, C.P.R, and more.  F&H Contractors also provides in-house training to address safety, and reviews task specific procedures for all craft labor.  Safety and job task training begins with pre-construction meetings and continues throughout the duration of the project.  F&H Contractors conducts daily tailgate meetings as well as a weekly safety meeting to review safety procedures and approved work processes for the work scheduled that day/week.  In addition, specific task training and/or safety training will be scheduled for tasks or projects that are considered to be of higher risk, are not commonly performed, or require specialized work processes.  All potential employees are subject to a pre-employment screening process which includes, but is not limited to, completion of an employment application, a thorough background investigation, drug screening, and a mandatory orientation class.  Upon successful completion of the processing procedures, applicants are then considered eligible for employment.

Recent Projects

 

PROGRESS ENERGY, CRYSTAL RIVER UNIT 3, SECURITY 

The installation of the new Horizontal Storage Modules, designed to store spent nuclear fuel, made it necessary to install a new perimeter security fence and intrusion detection devices along the east side of the facility.  The new security systems required the installation of a new ground grid, fence grounding, infrared detection system, E-Field intrusion detection system, bullet resistant security enclosures, duct banks, and security lighting.  Also included in the scope of the project was the removal of the existing fence grounding, microwave detection systems, and various systems that supported the monitoring of the existing system.  The project was completed in approximately ten (10) months with an average crew size of twenty-five (25) electricians.  This work was successfully completed on schedule with zero injuries, and zero accidents.

PROGRESS ENERGY, CRYSTAL RIVER UNITS 1 & 2, GSU TRANSFORMER REPAIRS

In December of 2010, a fire consumed one of the main GSU transformers at Progress Energy’s Unit 1.  F&H was called upon to provide emergency assistance with the repairs to the electrical systems that were damaged by the fire.  Fifteen (15) electricians were immediately provided by F&H to support Progress Energy’s efforts.  This work lasted approximately three (3) months, and resulted in the timely replacement of the GSU transformer and repairs to the electrical systems affected.  The crews were required to work 14-16 hour days, seven days a week, for several weeks, and did so with zero injuries or accidents.

STRUCTURAL PRESERVATIONS SYSTEMS, JACKSONVILLE ELECTRIC AUTHORITY (JEA)

F&H assisted in the design and installation of the electrical components and equipment necessary to provide temporary power for Structural Preservations while they refurbished two cooling towers at the Crystal River Energy Complex, and two cooling towers located at JEA’s St. John’s River Power Park in Jacksonville, FL. 

HURLBERT FIELD AIR FORCE BASE, FT. WALTON, FL

F&H performed the excavation and site work, installed reinforcing ironwork, poured and finished concrete foundations, rigged and placed 5,000 concrete vaults for emergency generators diesel fuel, installed emergency diesel generators, transfer switches, and associated electrical components at eighteen (18) facilities located around the base.  We also removed existing chiller units at five buildings, installed the new chillers, and modified the piping and electrical systems at each building to accommodate the new units.  This work took six months to complete, and was performed by a crew that consisted of equipment operators, ironworkers, carpenters, pipefitters, laborers, and electricians.  This work was completed safely, and on schedule.
